Today’s gamers are demanding.  They want NEW without CHANGE.  Lucky for them, Irrational Games has delivered both with BioShock Infinite.

Infinite gives you just enough familiar material to relax while injecting a ton of new exciting directions.  The combat is varied and the story moves quickly through a floating, downtrodden city named Columbia.  Think Detroit, but better.

Columbia is ruled by a man named Comstock, also known as “the Prophet.”  You control a man named Booker DeWitt and have agreed to search and find a girl named Elizabeth regardless of what gets in your way.  Not everything is clear right away, but the pieces eventually do present themselves.  Plus, remember you get to try and terrorize a guy named Comstock – already well worth your time.  Much of what is happening in Columbia is Elizabeth’s doing.  Also, new characters join you during your adventure, filling open plot lines and assisting with the metaphorical puzzle you are solving.

In addition to the main mission (saving Elizabeth), Columbia is in full riot mode.  There is racial uncertainty and everyone appears to be a bad guy, or at least a rebel.  Again, think Detroit, but better.  That puts the violence on high and that is a good thing.  Weapons include a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and sniper rifle.  Oh, and there is a rocket launcher which is ALWAYS good to have.  The audio is top notch, one of the greatest moments will be hearing a barbershop quartet singing the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” because, well, it’s THE FUCKING BEACH BOYS and that is funny!
BioShock Infinite is the same, but more different which is why it is easy to get lost in this game, potentially losing days from your life.  Enjoy.
