Album Review: The Como Brothers Create a Spark with Imagination
The Como Brothers Band are a singer/songwriter duo with a new EP titled Imagination. Produced by Graham Marsh (Bruno Mars, CeeLo Green) the album mixes blues and rock with a steady pop sound.
REVIEW:
The album starts with “Good Enough For Me”, a crisp pop song that fits in with today’s heavy Ed Sheeran vibe that plays well on the radio. Personally, I enjoy the lyrics “Taking in the sunset before it crashes to the ground”, obviously I can appreciate beauty mixed with destruction. “Tell You I’m Fine” is poetic, makes me feel like someone is walking next to me telling me a story they are really excited to share. “Chemicals” is more of the same pop that The Como Brothers Band does very well, just slower and stripped down.
The Como Brothers keep it simple, which can be challenging. The good news is they clearly succeed in delivering good rock mixed with pop and blues on Imagination.
“Make My Heart Move” is their love song (I think) that’s a mellow Tom Petty type diddy. You know, when Petty is three joints in…that mellow. The EP closes with a special bonus treat, “Bold As Love”, a really bluesy number that was so catchy I immediately had to give it another listen.

Five Hundredth Year Rises From The Ashes
Five Hundredth Year is a metal band on a mission (probably not from God). They have drawn comparisons to Five Finger Death Punch and already opened for big metal bands such as GWAR and Mushroomhead. They have been hitting to 2015 festival circuit (Chill on the Hill, Dirtfest and Carnival of Chaos), all of this despite being only a two year-old band. They have recently released a new EP titled A Rose From Ashes.
REVIEW:
“Blame” is the first track and is really the perfect first track for the EP. This song has a lot of rage and energy, and then slows, giving you a chance to take a breath. Despite this balance don’t be fooled, this is in-your-face metal. Track two, “Awaken In Silence” has metal radio play written all over it. After one listen I couldn’t get the “Feeling six feet under…” lyrics out of my head. I think that is a good thing… “Stand Up” is more of a straight up rocker with amazing drumming and “Breaking Point” delivers up to its track name – heavy with a good pace.
What can take bands years…Five Hundredth Year has already figured out. They know the type of music they want to make and lucky for them, they are pretty damn good at it.
The unbelievable drumming continues of “Violent Descent” which has a little more death metal vibe and then “Reflection” keeps the album strong with killer vocals and great range. “Talking Body” is a cover, but it also boasts “explicit material” which makes this even better. The content is very sexual, but if you’ve made it this far in the album, I’m sure you will be pretty cool with it and won’t be disappointed with this epic closer.

Album Review: Phil Collen Takes a Break From Def Leppard and Goes Delta Deep
REVIEW:
Delta Deep is Phil Collen’s side project that includes Rob DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots. The mission statement is simple: create blues music that people will appreciate. This isn’t your average super group mailing it in based on name alone. The music is better than solid and the blues are deep, Delta Deep. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
It doesn’t take long to get the flavor of the album, kicking off with “Bang The Lid”, a more rocking tune you’d expect from these musicians. The surprise is what follows; starting with “Whiskey”, the blues groove, lyrics and swagger is strong. Mix in Debbie Blackwell’s vocals and you’ve got some serious music brewing here.
Delta Deep may have started as a side project, but this group needs to keep singing the blues.
The album continues with strong guitars on “Down In the Delta” and a pop-infused “Treat Me Like A Lady.” For rock fans there are a few of those here as well such as the first track and “Feel It”, but the best is when this group gets down to the blues with “Mistreated” and “Black Coffee.” I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I believe this band has struck a nerve here and any fan of blues music will appreciate the debut album from Delta Deep.

Album Review: Andy Evans’ Flawless Miracle
REVIEW:
When I first heard of Andy Evans the comparison was Ryan Adams, the hot-shot-pop-rock star of the moment. No offense to Adams, but not really my cup of tea. There is a reason why the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover” still applies today. Andy Evans is no Ryan Adams; I enjoyed Evans music much more.
Diving right into the tracks of his album, Miracle, we begin with “Miracle”, a simple love song. The song is simple, in a good way in that the tune is catchy and somehow the lyrics, despite being simplistic are real and unique, all in a good way. Hey, it worked for The Beatles (they weren’t so bad), and it works for Evans. Sometimes I like to guess what a song is about by the title and “45” didn’t disappoint. It’s about a gun, but not what you think, it’s the gun his dad left him as a gift after he passed away. I don’t want to get all “Cats In The Cradle” here, but it hit a nerve. Let’s talk about Evan’s voice. It’s deep. A perfect place to start is listening to “Lesson Learned” a slow tune that showcases his Eddie Vedderesque vocals with a sound that is forcefully suppressed, resulting in a built up emotion for the listener, at least it did for me.
Evan’s album is an eclectic group of songs that together work to tell a powerful story. The writing is impeccable and the delivery is flawless.
“Shape of Love” has a hint of roaring twenties swing and “Judas” is a gloomy, purposely distorted sounding rocker. “I Wish She Was Mine” goes back to what Evans does so well, and that’s tell a real story where he doesn’t mince words, poetry mixed with a pleasant sound. The album ends with “Make It” a long tune that only puts an explanation point on the fact that Evans is an artist that doesn’t play by the rules!
